HELP SUPPORT SANTA FE COMMUNITY COLLEGE TO IMPROVE HIGHER EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES FOR SANTA FE RESIDENTS

On August 3, Santa Fe Community College (SFCC) will ask voters to decide on a $35 million bond issue to maintain and improve its home campus and construct a Higher Education Center to broaden access to advanced degrees in Santa Fe.

The bond issue does not raise taxes.  In fact, property owners will see a slight decrease in their tax bill because interest rates are so low, and some of SFCC's other bond obligations will retire. New, less-expensive bond money will have the effect of lowering SFCC's debt service mill levy, which currently stands at 1.046 mills

Together we can make a difference

Paula Rhae McDonald, owner of Kiva Fine Art, is a successful business woman and lover of Native American Art. Although she has lived in many parts of the country, when it came time to settle down, Santa Fe called her home. "I spent many happy summers here with my grandparents as a child," recalls Paula, "I guess it's the multicultural aspect I enjoy the most. Because I come from a multicultural heritage, it was difficult to fit into many other places I have lived." Paula is of Native American ancestry as well as Irish, Dutch and German.

Paula's gallery spaces are located in the famed historic El Centro building just steps from the plaza in downtown Santa Fe. "We are a little off the beaten path," says Paula. "But the people seem to find us." As a matter of fact, people seem to be magically drawn to Kiva. "People often comment that 'it feels good in here'. I try to make everyone feel comfortable and share the story of the art and artists.”
